Hyperbaric oxygen treatment of retinal artery occlusion.
نویسنده
چکیده
Five patients with a one- to 12-day history of symptoms secondary to retinal artery occlusion (RAO) were treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2) for one hour at 1.5 ATA. Four patients had been diagnosed with branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) and one patient with a cilioretinal artery occlusion. The three patients with macular sparing occlusions had experienced a loss of visual field, and the remaining two patients with macular involvement had marked loss of central visual acuity. All patients improved following HBO2 treatment. There were no complications. HBO2 may be a safe and effective treatment for patients with RAO.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in combination with systemic treatment of sickle cell disease presenting as central retinal artery occlusion: a case report
INTRODUCTION We describe hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of central retinal artery occlusion in a young adult with sickle cell disease. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old Turkish man with a history of sickle cell disease developed sudden painless loss of vision in the left eye and was hospitalized for diagnosis and treatment. Central retinal artery occlusion was diagnosed with retina...

Four patients received hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT): Three patients had nonarteritic central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO); a fourth patient had a CRAO in the right eye (OD) and a branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) with macular involvement in the left eye (OS) secondary to giant cell arteritis. The first two patients presented with a one-day history of CRAO, the third patient with a 1...

A 60-year-old woman had central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) presented to the ophthalmology department with a sudden, painless loss of vision. Her initial visual acuity was light perception and she treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) 4 hours after the development of visual symptoms. Systemic risk factors were not found so she was diagnosed as having idiopathic CRAO. Her vision impr...
متن کاملReversibility of retinal ischemia due to central retinal artery occlusion by hyperbaric oxygen
PURPOSE Ischemic retinal damage can be reversed by hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as long as irreversible infarction damage has not developed. However, the time window till irreversible damage develops is still unknown. The study aim was to evaluate the effect of HBOT and determine possible markers for irreversible retinal damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective analysis of 225 patients...
متن کاملThe efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of central retinal artery occlusion
Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ophthalmological emergency. Various treatment modalities have been tried, but none have shown to alter natural history of the disease. Hyperoxia can restore retinal oxygenation, and favourable results were obtained with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). We report two patients with sudden visual loss due to CRAO treated with HBOT. Case 1: a 61-year-o...
